J’ai l’honneur d’accuser réception de votre lettre du 4 avril dernier par laquelle, pour la troisième fois, vous me réclamez le remboursement de l’argent que je vous dois.
Sachez tout d’abord que je ne conteste pas cette dette et que j’ai l’intention de vous rembourser aussitôt que possible.
Mais d’autre part, je vous signale que j’ai encore beaucoup d’autres créanciers, tout aussi honorables que vous, et que je souhaite rembourser aussi.
C’est pourquoi chaque mois, je mets tous les noms de mes créanciers dans un chapeau et en tire un au hasard que je m’empresse de rembourser.
J’ose espérer que votre nom sortira bientôt.

PS. Votre dernière lettre étant rédigée de manière fort peu courtoise, j’ai le regret de vous faire savoir que vous ne participerez pas au prochain tirage.
